Back to School Milkshake

It’s hard to believe that it is already September!  Always an exciting time of year, the month of September signifies change in our routine, as we transition from the dog days of summer to the always busy holiday season.

If you have kids (of any age), it also marks the return of the school routine; lazy summer mornings become hectic scrambles to get fed, clothed, and out the door in time.   At the same time the seasons are changing, and the change in temperature and moisture can bring health deficiencies to the forefront.

Not to worry, as I have created a drink to help aid in that extra energy boost needed for this transitional time.  The Back to School Milkshake!

Why is it so good for back to school? This back to school milkshake is full of healthy carbohydrates which is ideal for sustained energy. It also boasts a large amount of quality protein as well as the optimal amount of essential fatty acids. It is key for kids to get a good dose of healthy fats in the morning to help them with brain function, imagination, concentration and allow them to stay focus while in school.

Ingredients - makes 4 servings
1 cup almonds
3 cups water
1/2 cup blueberries
1/4 cup chia seeds
1/4 cup goji berries
1 banana

How to prepare
Place all your ingredients into a blender and blend. See, that was easy!

Recipe Tip -  add in 2 tablespoons of cacao powder to turn this into a back to school chocolate milkshake. YUM YUM!

What do you think?  Please leave a comment if you try this out and let me know how your kids enjoyed it.  I’m willing to bet you feel more clarity and vibrancy all day long!

Yummy and Pretty!!! mmmmmm

Tasty (though chunky), but one serving contain 29 grams of fat! Thought about an alternative with fewer almonds, more berries, and something to replace the banana?

Just made this shake for the morning.  Great way to start the day.  Thanks Adam for the suggestion.
