I just ordered a new dehydrator from Excalibur. This is something I would never have owned 10 years ago, but now I can’t live without one.
I am so stoked!
Do you own a dehydrator? If you don’t own one, are not familiar with what they are or what to do with one, let me know and I will share with you a world of raw food that will improve your health forever!
Are Cheerios a Healthy Snack? Check out this post from my friend Snack Girl. I posted a comment you can view below. Let me know what you think, healthy or not?
My Comment
As much as one might believe Cheerios is a healthier choice for cereal, the truth is, you might as well be eating Frosted Flakes. The way you body reacts when using the nutrients found in Cheerios is no different then any other commercial processed food that has very little in the way of nutrients. A quick burst of insulin and then an energy crash, that is what you can expect when you eat Cheerios.
I love cereal and always have. That is why now I eat 1/4 cup of my favorite cereal and add hemp seed, ground flax seeds and almonds to boost the nutritional value and give me the energy I need to enjoy my day. I even add quinoa to my cereal a few times a week. So Good!
Yesterday I ate at Subway again for the first time in ten years. I was on a road trip coming back from a biking/climbing in Moab and ran out of my food I took with me to avoid eating truck stop and fast food. Not too many healthy options while on the road and Subway seemed like the best choice.
As soon as I ordered my veggie sub on multi grain bread I knew exactly what I was eating.
On the menu there was a picture of “Jared”, the once overweight guy who is now skinny, offering his favorites for a calorie reduced menu. The truth is, each option was void in healthy calories and only provided simple carbs to leave the consumer feeling tired and in need of more food. And to think I could have added chips and a big pop for only $2 more. Back ten years ago I would have taken advantage of this option, but you can’t get me on that one anymore.
Do you like eating chips? Why not enjoy a bag while watching television or hanging out with friends? They are salty, taste great and satisfy your hunger cravings to some extent, but are they really all that healthy for you. I think you already know that answer. Here is an article from the Vreeland Clinic out of Vermont, USA. Check out what they have to say about Tostitos chips. These used to be some of my favourite snacking foods back when I was very unhealthy.
Can one person change the way you eat? I like to believe so. I feel as if I am one person who is making a difference by helping spread a healthy message. Just as I have found an audience so has Jamie Oliver. Jamie happens to have a very large audience and he has now begun to use it to his advantage in a very positive way. Like myself, Jamie Oliver is on a mission. His mission is to get American’s to stop the insanity of eating foods that kill and start taking action towards healthier eating. His recent Ted talk is worth watching and provides proof that no matter who you are, you have the power to make a difference. Check out the video and see for yourself.
There is a lot of information surrounding salt. Is it good or is it bad? Sodium is a natural occurring element that is crucial to your body’s ability to function optimally. The problem in North America is that we mass consume salt in most of our commercial products and in all the wrong forms.
To learn more take a look at this recent video from NBC. Pay close attention to the last comment. Once you reduce your intake of salt you start to become more sensitive to it. let me know what you think. Have you reduced your salt intake and noticed a difference?
Are you like many North Americans who get home from a hard day of work and sit in front of the television to numb the day away? I know I used to be. There is comfort in tuning out the mind and just letting go. The television is the quickest way to escape our daily routine and forget all our troubles, but is it really serving you?
I used to watch an average of 4 hours of television each night. How many do you watch? About 8 years ago I moved from Toronto, Canada to a small town in British Columbia, Canada called Golden. This was my first experience without having a television. WHAT A SHOCK! No TV? Why not, how do you live without it? What do you spend your time doing? These were my first reactions and my friends and family back home where just as confused. It never occurred to me that I could live without television. So much of my youth and adult years revolved around using the TV to escape my days and avoid reality. I know now that many of my health ailments such as being overweight, pre-diabetic and suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder had to do with my many hours in front of the television.
Here are just a few of the many reasons why television has negative consequences to your health:.
1. Eating while watching
It almost seems as if eating goes hand in hand with watching television. Don’t you agree? Not only did I consume large amounts of processed food while watching television, my portion sizes where way over the top. How many of you have trouble controlling what you eat and how much you eat while vegging out in front of the TV? Tihs only leads to weight gain as well as many other ailments when done long term.
2. Not active
This is a no brainer. It is hard to be active while sitting on the couch eating chips, cookies and peanuts all night. If you use the television while working, that is a much healthier option.
3. Never really got to know yourself
I do not recall a time in the past where I took a moment and spent some real honest time with myself. There was always a TV or video game running to ensure that I did not have to face how I was truly feeling, which was very unhealthy and depressed. Being disconnected from your relationship to yourself and how you feel is only exasperated by the use of television.
Limit the TV
It’s amazing what you can discover about yourself when you no longer have a television or reduce the amount of time you sit in front of it. I often get asked, “what do you do without it?” I love this question because it gets to the heart of reconnecting to your relationship with who you are and how you feel. So many of us do not want to acknowledge how we feel. WHY NOT? For most of us, if we ask this question we will not like the answer and that also means we will have to do something about it.
Having to do something about our health often brings pain and we will do everything to avoid pain and anything to gain pleasure. The television is instant pleasure. When you find yourself saying “everything is OK”, you are essentially giving up. If this is you, it is time to create something different.
Since I stopped saying “everything is OK” and began engaging how I felt, my life has evolved into a healthy, beautiful and vibrant existence. You can experience this as well. If you want support along the way, give me a call and I will set you up with a coaching program that will make it easy for you to experience a healthy shift. You just need to want it bad enough.
Next time you go to sit in front of the television, why not STOP and do one of the exercises below.
1. Play an instrument
If you don’t have one, grab some pots and pans from the kitchen and start banging away.
2. Meditate
There are thousands of free guided meditations available online. Pick on and enjoy a 20 minute meditation.
3. Get in the Kitchen
Why not pick up that recipe book you always wanted to try and chose a healthy option for dinner.

My cousin sent this video to me several months ago. I couldn’t stop thinking about the concept of the “Heart Attack Grill” and wanted to share with you my thoughts. In the obvious, this video demonstrates the extreme side of North American cuisine. Eating burgers and a buffet of french fries will only lead to heart disease and many other ailments. But like a brilliant entrepreneur, the “Heart Attack Grill” provides its clientele with exactly what they want, pure pleasure without any guilt. If you walk into the “Heart Attack Grill” and order a triple bypass burger what does that say about you? For many they feel as if they are standing up for their right to eat fat, fried, over processed foods and enjoy it without being labeled. The reality is, we are under educated in North America when it comes to eating healthy. This leads many to avoid the pain of having to learn how to it healthy. To avoid the pain, many people chose to embrace the pleasure. In my opinion the “Heart Attack Grill” is praying on peoples weakness and profiting at the cost of others health. The “Heart Attack Grill” found a way to provide a feeling of comfort for those who need it, but in the end you can be sure the money earned is not coming from a place of integrity as they feed helpless North Americans an unhealthy dose of artery clogging, stomach aching, acid forming garbage, but that’s just my opinion.
What do you think? Watch the video and then let me know
I good friend shared this video with me recently. I found it very profound. We all have a choice on how to look at our own life. You can choose to live from despair or live from a place of peace, joy, love and happiness. WE ALL HAVE A CHOICE.
Do you think you eat healthy? Most people do. I am sure you eat healthy to some extent, but without exercise, no amount of healthy eating is going to keep you in top shape
Proper nutrition is crucial for abundant health, but without a healthy dose of exercise, you will never achieve your desired health goals.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and average adult needs at least 150 minutes of aerobic activity every week. This might sound like a lot to some, but the reality is if you were to take a brisk walk for 30 minutes 5 days a week you would reach 150 with ease. Still sounds like too much? Why not starts with a 20 minute walk 3 times a week and work up to the 150 minutes.
You can come up with all the excuses you want, but until you get up and move you will not get to where you want to go.
Exercise, in combination with my 80/20 rule of eating whole foods (outlined in my e3 for Life book), will set you up for having no problem losing those few extra pounds, attaining abundant energy or relieving a little bit of stress.
Call a friend and make plans for a brisk walk around your block for tomorrow morning before work. Talk to a co-worker and start a walking group for this week. There is no shortage of ideas and ways to get active.
NO MORE EXCUSES!
GET OUTSIDE & PLAY and enjoy all the health benefits.
Taking action for the life you want is NOT something you wait for. You only need to look around see, hear, smell, touch and taste the wonders of the world. Time is limited and therefor you must seize the day….CARPE DIEM!
The people of Haiti have recently given me another wake up call. Their tragedy in the recent earthquake has brought about a worldwide rise in our ability to love and care for all mankind. I am very excited to introduce you to my personal coach and good friend Brodie who also has been touched by the victims of the Haiti earthquake. This video of Brodie’s song to the Haitian people is very powerful and I am happy to share it with you. Please feel free to pass it on to your loved ones. May you all find this in good health.
