Adam Hart founder of Power of Food, asked me share my thoughts on his new book E3 for Life. Adam lives in Squamish, B.C. and is whole foods chef, professional speaker, nutirional expert, author and health coach extraordinaire.

Here’s what I LOVE about Adam’s book. Psst….recipes for Heavenly Halva is at the bottom of the post.

A Cornocopia of Healthy Delicious Recipes to Give you Energy for Life

Adam highlights interesting nutritional information about superfoods that are beneficial to include in your everyday like pistachios and black beans. Along-side the superfood profiles, Adam, includes several mouth-watering recipes. I was delighted to see many of my favourite affordable staples that I include on my Everyday Pantry Shopping List like sunflower seeds, quinoa, and brown rice.

What I love most about Adam’s recipes are that they offer healthy and delicious replacements for unhealthy everyday favourites. This means you do not have to give-up anything while making your lifestyle transition. Included in E3 for Life are Kale Chips, Make it Yourself Mayo, Zucchini Nut Muffins, Ultimate Raw Chocolate Mousse and Chocolate Popcorn. Yum! The recipe that jumped out to the most to me is Heavenly Halva because it was easy to make with affordable ingredients that I have on hand like tahini and seseame seeds. See recipe at the end of post.

The Success System that I found most helpful, is the First 10,
referrring to setting your energy to a positive state during these first 10 minutes in the morning to get your day off to the start it needs ~ for you to create the positive changes in your life that you want. What I particularly loved about Adam’s approach is that he includes helpful work sheets (or should I say playsheets :-) to help you to keep track of your progress to stay motivated and make the journey to a healthier you…yes fun!

Adam Hart’s Heavenly Halvah
I love this recipe because it is quick to make, high in protein and healthy fats to balance blood sugar. It is a practical recipe to incorporate into your everyday cuisine as you can make a large batch and store in your fridge or freezer for quick snacks on-the-go!

Ingredients

1/4 cup sesame seeds, ground
1/2 cup ground almonds*
1/4 cup hemp seeds
4 tbsp tahini
3 tbsp natural honey**
1/2 tsp Himalayan crystal salt***

How to Prepare

Combine all your ingredients into a large mixing bowl.
Place mixture into a square baking dish over wax or parchment paper.
Sprinkle hemp seeds over top and place your halvah in your fridge for one hour.
Once cooled, cut into small square portions and serve.

Recipe from Adam Hart’s E3 for Life. pg.110.

Julie’s Notes

* You can replace the almonds with cashews as they tend to be more affordable and substitue well with one another.
** I recommend using a local and/or raw honey. Hone is only healthy and sustainable if you use the good stuff. Otherwise most honey is cut with additives like corn syrup and bees are tended to in a way that destroys their habitat. You can also replace with organic dark maple syrup.
***Feel free to use any high quality sea salt. I would start by adding a pinch and more to taste if needed.

Bon Appetit!
