Grains
Whole grains are foods that have not gone through a lot of processing. They are grains that are from the whole grain plant and are a great source of good quality carbohydrates, high powered protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals. Once grains have been processed or refined, they lose a lot of their nutritional value. Choosing whole grains that are organically grown and free of genetically modified organisms is also important when including grains into our food routine.
Some examples of whole grains include:
Quinoa (also a complete protein), Amaranth, Barley, Brown Rice and Millet, just to name a few.
Take Action Tip: On your next visit to the grocery store buy one of the grains listed and incorporate into one recipe this week.
